Chiptuning "Abarth 500 Euro 5 (< 2014) 500 135/140 hp"
Abarth used to be an independent company that had its origins in racing and later in the manufacture of exhaust systems. Later, stage sets followed, usually based on existing models. In many cases, the basis was Fiats. Signor Carlo Abarth decided in 1971 to sell his company with 250 employees to Fiat. After which he retired to his real native Austria. Gradually, Abarth as a brand died out. At one point, Abarth was no more than a sticker/striping set for certain Fiat models for Fiat. Until about 2008 when Fiat decided to revive Abarth again. With about the same thought as back then. Existing Fiat models equipped with faster motorization and sportier chassis. The brand name Fiat is then even exchanged for Abarth. This is how the Abarth 500 was born.
The Abarth 500 is equipped with the well-known 1.4 16v T-jet engine and in that form delivers 135 hp according to the promise of Abarth. In reality, however, it is a few more. We noted 144 hp. A funny detail is that in 2010 the Abarth 500 will be slightly upgraded in terms of specifications. From now on with 140 hp. However, there are no differences between software and hardware. In short, they themselves realized that they had been a bit too careful with 135 hp.
The Abarth 500 has a “Sport boost” button on the dashboard. We have set the performance of the Sport mode to the “non-Sport” mode. The throttle response in both positions has been sharpened.
Of course we have drawn comparisons to other well-known 1.4 T-jet engines. The Abarth 500 is identical in terms of engine to the Alfa MiTo 1.4 T-jet. Some software versions even have very large similarities. Therefore, at 156 hp at 5500 rpm found too low. We know from the MiTo that 170-172 hp should be achievable. The biggest bottleneck was quickly found. The standard air filter element is of minuscule proportions. The standard mounted BMC air filter of the Esseesse tuning package brings a solution.
