Chiptuning "Alfa Romeo Alfa classico SZ/RZ"
The Alfa SZ (Sport Zagato) or ES30, which stands for “Edizione Speciale 3-litre”, was originally a show car. The all-plastic body (except the roof) looks so evil that the car was also called “Il monsto”.
After much insistence from many potential buyers, it was decided to take the car into production. 450 would be produced. However, Alfa has not fully kept its promise. In the end, about 1100 were produced, which significantly reduced the exclusivity. Good thing too, because many copies immediately disappeared towards hermetically sealed garage buildings.
This Alfa is based on a shortened chassis of the 75, which already guaranteed the best road holding in the base. To tighten a few more teeth, the main wishbone mountings were replaced by balls. This gave the SZ a very tight road holding and gigantic cornering accelerations (G-forces) were possible. The engine was a factory-tuned 3.0 V6. The compression was increased from 9.5 to 10.0, the 75 QV camshafts were retained, the intake and exhaust ports were neatly finished and more beautifully designed manifolds were fitted. This resulted in 210 hp, still 18 more than the “normal” 3.0 V6. It gave the car decent performance at the time. Today that is less, but there is still nothing to be ashamed of.
Production started in 1989 and lasted until 1993. From 1991, open versions of the SZ were also built, called RZ (= Roadstar Zagato). There was also an SZ cup. Some of them have come to a sad end.
