The Alfa 33 was presented in 1983 as the successor to the Alfa Sud. The Alfa Sud represented a revolution for Alfa Romeo. And whether this is positive or negative, you can decide for yourself. In any case, it was an Alfa with particularly progressive technology.

For the occasion, a hypermodern car factory was built near Naples for that time. The Sud is a model that evokes different feelings among Alfa enthusiasts. In our eyes, the Alfasud deserves a very prominent place in Alfa history. For that time, the car was way ahead of its time. The handling and engine technology were excellent. Unfortunately, the quality of the sheet metal let it down and it was the first Alfa with front-wheel drive.

Back to the 33. The Alfa 33 1.7 16v is the most powerful boxer of that time. The smallest boxer engine measured only 1086 cc and was also supplied in the aforementioned Alfa Sud.

The Alfa 33 1.7 16v has proven very successful on the track in the years that the car was sold. In the Netherlands, almost standard cars were raced in the so-called group N class. Numerous victories were achieved, with these 33, on paper, faster 2-litre engines behind them every time.
